At Remployee, our mission is to make hiring, getting hired, staying compliant, and working remotely simpler for everyone. Our reviews are built to help both employees and employers cut through hype and make confident decisions about job boards, hiring platforms, applicant tracking systems (ATS), background-check providers, payroll and EOR services, compliance tools, time-tracking/monitoring apps, and remote-work collaboration suites.
Why Our Reviews Are Honest—and How They Help
Editorial independence. Our reviews are written and edited by our research team, not sales. Commercial partnerships never determine our scores or conclusions. If we use affiliate links, we say so clearly, and partners cannot preview, approve, or change our content.
Evidence over opinion. We rely on hands-on testing, structured scoring, and verified data (pricing pages, documentation, security attestations) rather than vendor claims. When vendors provide demos, we treat them as one input—never the deciding factor.
Real-world usefulness. Our work is designed to answer practical questions: Will this tool make my candidate pipeline faster? Is this job board worth posting on for remote roles? Can this EOR keep me compliant in multiple countries? By focusing on outcomes, our reviews save readers time, money, and risk.
Transparent trade-offs. No product is perfect. We call out limitations, hidden fees, and known bugs so you can weigh trade-offs before committing budget or trusting your data to a provider.
How We Do the Reviews
1) Hands-on testing. We create sandbox accounts or paid trials and complete end-to-end flows: posting jobs, applying as candidates, scheduling interviews, running background checks, generating contracts, onboarding, paying contractors, setting up time tracking, and enabling integrations (e.g., Slack, Google Workspace).
2) Mystery-shopper scenarios. We contact sales and support with real-world questions (pricing nuances, data deletion, GDPR requests, SOC 2 reports) to evaluate responsiveness, accuracy, and honesty.
3) Data verification. We capture screenshots of pricing, read SLAs, uptime pages, and security docs; we cross-check statements against public records and third-party audits when available.
4) User panels. We interview HR leaders, recruiters, founders, and remote employees across industries and regions to pressure-test our findings and surface edge cases (e.g., VAT handling for EU contractors, KYC friction in LATAM).
5) Performance & accessibility checks. We assess load times, mobile UX, and accessibility basics (keyboard navigation, alt text) for candidate and admin experiences.
6) Update cadence. Markets change fast. We revisit popular tools at least twice a year and update sooner if pricing, features, or compliance posture shifts meaningfully.
The Criteria Explained
We score each product on a 1–5 scale across these weighted criteria (weights may adjust slightly by category; we note any changes in the review):
- Core Value (25%) – What you actually get for the price: feature depth, caps/limits, and total cost of ownership (including add-ons and overage fees).
- Product Experience (20%) – Ease of setup, clarity of workflows, quality of UI, mobile readiness, and accessibility.
- Trust & Compliance (15%) – Data protection (SOC 2/ISO 27001), privacy controls (GDPR/CCPA), audit logs, permissioning, and legal coverage for global hiring or monitoring.
- Coverage & Outcomes (15%) – For job boards: candidate quality, geographic reach, time-to-apply. For ATS/hiring platforms: sourcing effectiveness, pipeline visibility, offer creation. For EOR/payroll: country coverage, net-pay accuracy, benefits options, tax filings.
- Integrations & Ecosystem (10%) – Pre-built connectors (HRIS, payroll, calendars, video), API depth, webhooks, and marketplace maturity.
- Support & Community (10%) – Availability (live chat, phone, email), SLA transparency, onboarding resources, and admin education.
- Vendor Health (5%) – Company stability, roadmap velocity, incident history, and openness about limitations.
Each review includes a Scorecard with sub-scores, our testing notes, and “Good to know” caveats (e.g., “Background checks add a per-screen fee,” or “International payments require separate KYC per entity”).
Who Our Reviews Are Most Helpful For
- Job seekers and remote workers: We compare job boards and hiring platforms on application friction, profile portability, and signal quality (e.g., recruiter response rates). We highlight boards that excel for remote, hybrid, or junior roles, and we flag any invasive monitoring in remote-work tools that could affect your privacy.
- Recruiters and HR teams: Our ATS and sourcing platform reviews focus on pipeline speed, collaboration (hiring manager reviews, interview kits), compliance (EEO/OFCCP), and reporting. We also evaluate background-check turnaround times and dispute handling.
- Founders and small businesses: We break down pricing clarity, ease of first-time setup, and whether an all-in-one platform beats a best-of-breed stack at your stage.
- Global ops, finance, and compliance leads: For payroll, EOR, and contractor management, we scrutinize country coverage, statutory benefits, tax filings, IP assignment, and local law adherence—critical for distributed teams.
